Looking back on these photos from Tracy and Matt’s warm summer wedding has me so excited for this upcoming wedding season (and summer nights out in downtown Minneapolis)! As a photographer herself, Tracy knew exactly what she wanted and together she and Matt had every little detail planned for their magical wedding day.
Matt and Tracy’s Wedding Day
Just like the couple themselves, Tracy and Matt wanted an elegant and timeless wedding. When the planning began for their downtown Minneapolis wedding last summer they knew they wanted it to be in a place that reflected them as a couple. And with a desire to have minimal decor, they wanted a venue that spoke for itself.
First Look at Courtyard Marriott Minneapolis
Tracy had a first look with both her dad and Matt at the Courtyard Marriott Minneapolis Hotel where they got ready for the day. In front of a gorgeous wall of green vines, they saw each other for the first time and had some sweet quiet moments before we headed to St. Andrew Lutheran Church for bridal party and family (and puppy!) portraits. The two made it official at their church with a beautiful ceremony surrounded by their closest friends and family.
Reception at Day Block Event Center
Tracy and Matt chose Day Block Event Center as their reception venue and it was the perfect backdrop for their celebration. The simplicity of the lofted venue allowed their love and natural-toned florals and decor to be the main focus of the day. The two met out after a Twins baseball game and enjoy visiting local breweries so a venue that is part of a brewery was quite fitting!
Brewery Wedding Details
Handcrafted and sentimental touches were found throughout the wedding day. Tying into their love of exploring local breweries, table numbers were tucked into cans from some of their favorite spots. Tracy also had her niece draw the two of them as bride and groom for the front of their ceremony program (image below!). A giant Jenga set was made to serve as a guest book for all who attended to sign and leave messages on.
Sunset Portraits on The Rooftop of Day Block Event Center
After a delicious dinner and heart-felt toasts by family and friends, we snuck away to the rooftop for sunset portraits of their downtown Minneapolis wedding. Tracy and Matt practiced their first dance and had a few moments of alone time before heading back inside for for the party! Day Block has some of my favorite views of downtown. The way the sun sets over the cityscape makes for some ultra romantic golden hour photos!
Question and Answer From The Bride Herself
Q: Tell us about the proposal.
A: Matt is really good at finding fun things for us to do….he planned an entire day of fun from breakfast to dinner filled in-between with the things we enjoy doing together!! He waited until the end to propose of course!
Q: What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
A: It was really important to get married in a church and to us that was a very special start to our marriage!
Q: Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
A: Try to keep it as simple as possible, book a venue that speaks for itself so you can have minimal extras to worry about. Have someone help keep track of your timeline/wedding party so you can have less stress on your wedding day. Allow enough time for everything-carefully think out the timeline.
Thank you Matt and Tracy for having me be there to capture your wedding day. I’ve loved getting to know you over the past year and am so excited to see where your adventure takes your family!
